In Microsoft Entra, cross-tenant synchronization will support provisioning a user’s manager across tenants. For existing synchronization configurations with default schema, the manager will start to provision automatically for new users. If you have custom configurations, you can add the manager attribute to your attribute mappings. This feature is available worldwide and in both GCC and GCC High.

This feature set brings new functionality to learning academies. Multi-layer structuring allows users to organize content and learning paths under multiple levels. Branding capabilities include the customization of the academy logo and the background image. Microsoft Teams: Real-time notifications (Live Activities) for Teams meetings on iOS lock screen

iOS Live Activities integration for Teams meetings on mobile allows users to view the live progress of a meeting at-a-glance from their lock screen. Real-time notifications with Live Activities automatically update in real-time so users can see when the meeting has started, when it’s in progress, whether recording is on, when someone needs to be admitted from the lobby, and when the meeting has ended. Live Activities is for iPhones only (iOS16.1).

Outlook: Work Hours and Location in My Day

Microsoft Teams: New security and certification information available for apps and extensions

This feature will equip administrators evaluating apps and copilot extensions for deployment with extensive security and related certification data to help those admins more quickly evaluate that an app and/or extension complies with their tenant security requirements. Initially, the information provided will include results from individual M365 certification tests and evidence submitted by ISVs during Microsoft’s audit of their app or copilot extension. Additionally, for non-certified apps, admins will receive details on data handling, security, and compliance as self-attested by the ISV.

Microsoft Teams: Support for PowerPoint live within Cloud Video Interop (CVI)

Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Mesh app on PC supports guest access for events

Attendees can now join Mesh events as a guest in the Microsoft Mesh app on PC. Event organizers can invite guest users outside their organization, providing an opportunity for broader collaboration and networking in Mesh events. Guests can sign in to Mesh app to join events, participate in discussions, and experience the same interactive features as internal users, all while maintaining secure access control. Guest access for events in the Mesh app on Quest and support for anonymous participants will be supported in a future update.

Outlook: Schedule from email with Copilot

Often you may want to transition a conversation from an email thread to a meeting. Copilot helps you do this by being able to start scheduling right from the email conversation. It saves you time and effort by generating a meeting invite that’s ready for you to review and send. When you click on “Schedule with Copilot” a meeting form will appear with a Copilot generated meeting title, agenda, and conversation summary as well as a pre-filled attendee list from the email thread and an attachment of the original email thread. This feature will be available in the new Outlook for Windows, web, Mac, and mobile. #newoutlookforwindows

Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Copilot in Excel support for formula data summaries in rows and cells

Add a single formula to summarize column data into one cell. Today, full column calculations produce a unique result in each row, but this new feature gives you the option to calculate all data in a column together to return one result. You can also create a row with formulas that apply for relevant columns; for example, an “add total sales row” will add a SUM formula underneath every column that has sales data.

SharePoint: New enhancements to Restricted access control using Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra security groups

Restricted access control (RAC) is a premium security policy that lets admins restrict access to SharePoint and OneDrive resources to a specific set of users configured using Microsoft 365 or Entra Security groups. As part of this change, new capabilities will be added to review the impact of RAC application using insights reports and additional options to configure the policy will be made available. Also, policy enforcement visibility will be extended to Site owners via SharePoint sites.

Your organization can now disable connected experiences for privacy concerns without impacting data security policies such as sensitivity labels. To enhance the user experience for editing and creating policies, we will be making improvements to the Trigger, Trigger threshold, Indicator threshold, and Summary pages of the policy wizard. Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.
